How the garden grows

The sun appeared for a lengthy performance today as we celebrate the summer solstice. Not only does June 21st mark the official beginning of summer, but bringing with it these happy tomatoes. My tiny back deck allows me just enough space to fill it with containers of green. While keeping their soil moist during Chicago heat can prove frustrating, there is nothing better than cozying up amidst an urban garden, forgetting about the concrete whitewashed earth below.

Minnie.

As an individual who is quite often drawn to the antique, both within the tangible and the cerebral realm, I found myself immediately inspired to adopt the above 1940's Royal typewriter. I feel an unquenchable urge to name her Eleanor, Edna, Esther, Mildred, or Minnie. Her keys are made of glass-although gone rogue is the letter S. Her typebars are graced with cobwebs and I'm quite confident the only transcribing she is capable of is in dust. One can only imagine this weathered, yet tender machine's lot in life. Within this space, using Minnie's contemporary, it is my desire to leave thoughts and inspirations both of now and now's past. Cheers to vocabulary, photography, and life.
